Skinny Fabulous unleashes the beast

Icon at LaunchTo prove that it was not a fluke in 2008, Gamal Skinny Fabulous Doyle repeated a feat that many thought would have been difficult, when he was crowned Soca Monarch at the Victoria Park in the wee hours of Sunday morning July 5th.

Doyle put in another stellar performance as he defeated 19 other soca artistes on his way to the title, with his crowd motivating hit ÔThe Beast Let GoÕ.
Occupying the stage with beasts of various shapes and sizes and a few glow stick men, Doyle whipped the crowd into a frenzy with his energetic performance as he called on the filled to capacity Victoria Park to unleash their inner beasts.

At the end of the night, the performance may have taken its toll when he was reported to have suffered an asthma attack and was late in returning to the stage to be crowned by Minister of Culture Rene Baptiste.

DoyleÕs biggest rival in the soca monarch competition, six time winner Delroy ÔFiremanÕ Hooper once again had to settle for second place, despite the resounding approval from the revellers with his rendition of Ragz Invasion.

Third place went to Shertz ÔProblem ChildÕ James, brother of Doyle, who came down from the ceiling at the beginning of his crowd pleaser ÔMad HouseÕ.
Montgomery ÔDemusÕ Laborde rounded out the top four places with his rendition ÔRum JunkieÕ.
Other credible performances came in from the likes of Icon, Top Notch Swift, Fire Empress, The Man Stone and DJ 20.
One artiste, Recardo ÔReckaÕ had his performance cut short when the stage was swarmed by intruders.
