Twenty (20) for Fantastic Friday
With the first hurdle that
was preliminary judging cleared, the top twenty calypsonians out of close to 150 hopefuls, have been named for next weekÕs Fantastic Friday
launching of Vincy Mas 2008
at Victoria Park.
Following one week of
preliminary judging, four of the five tents have produced contenders for the
calypso monarch title held by Vibrating Scakes, while
two reserves have been selected from another.
The Graduates Calypso Tent
boasts the most picks with six selections which includes Bump I, Black
Messenger, Lexy, Tajoe and
former title holders Sulle and Princess Monique.
Another former monarch, Ipa, also finds himself in the semis, with Abijah, Patches, Azzarah and
Ranking Bash from the On Tour Calypso Tent.
From The North/South Leeward
arena comes the Observer, Bosalt, Struggler and Sonny
Banks.
Overseas based tent Dynamites
will feature five semi finalists at Fantastic Friday; two former monarchs Rejector and The Man Age, as well as Dennis Bowman, Exposer and John Dougan,
Two reserves; Brother Ebony
and Shaunelle McKenzie of The Upstage Experience have
been named as reserves.
Of the twenty performers, ten
will return to Victoria park on Dimanche Gras (July 6th)
when the take on vie for the title of 2008 Calypso Monarch.
Fantastic Friday will be held
in the memory of two deceased calypsonians; former Calypsonians Association President Josiah Ash and The
Mighty Rey.
