Players on winning road ...30/06/2008

With their 2008 presentation called ‘Exotica- The Wonders of Nature’, the KFC SVG Players International drew first blood with the winning of the Junior band of the year title last Saturday June 28^th.

The defending champs whipped Hieneken Dragons Cultural Organisation whose presentation is called ‘The Beauty and cultures of South America’ into second place, with Guinness Blondie Bird and Friends placing third with ‘Party in Space’.

Fourth was Digicel Nelson Bloc with ‘Shanghai Nights’, WE FM First Caribbean International Bank Singer Lynx with Signs and Wonders were 5^th, and Owen Ralph and the Professionals with ‘Things Bright and Beautiful’ were sixth.

The loud peals of thunder and torrents of rain did not prevent parents, mas men and enthusiastic children from making the event a success, neither did it deter spectators from turning out at the Victoria Park to witness the annual spectacle.

Players walked away with the Junior Queen of Carnival title with Roncisha Rose’s portrayal in the ‘Queen of the Hives’ costume.

Second was Nekiesha Saunders of Blondie Bird and friends with ‘Venus Goddess of Love’, Aaliyah Smith of Dragons with ‘Rainforest’ third followed by Angelika Boyea of Nelson Bloc portraying ‘Chinese New Years Festival’.

Players also won Best Junior Section with ‘Africanized Honey Bees’, beating ‘Fiesta’ by Dragons into second, ‘Galaxy on fire’ by Blondie Bird and Friends third, fourth was ‘Flying Daggers’ by Nelson Bloc and ‘Abrianna’ by Singer Lynx fifth.

In the Individuals sections, Digicel Nelson Bloc topped the 5-9 division with Lauren McGuire portrayal of ‘Flying Daggers’, followed by Players’ portrayal of ‘Red Breasted Humming Bird’ by Shania Thompson and Lorenzo John of High Voltage with his ‘Horis’ presentation.

Blondie Bird and Friends won the 10-15 division with Sophia Dick’s Portrayal of ‘Sun Bathers’, second again was Blondie Bird and Friends with ‘Flying Saucer’ portrayed by Aaliyah Dupont and Nelson Bloc third with ‘Imperial Guard’ portrayed by Kevin Francis.

Junior King was won by Kenroy Francis of Digicel Nelson Bloc, winning with ‘Puppet Master’.

He was followed by Atiron Lockhart of Blondie Bird and Friends portraying ‘Alien in a Space Ship’, third was Players’ portrayal of ‘Pride of the Peacocks Party’ played by Kevi Howard and fourth Ameil John of High Voltage with ‘Guardsman of the Pyramid’.

Uptown Judging was won by Digicel Nelson Bloc, with Players second, followed by Dragons, next was Owen Ralph and the Professionals, Singer Lynx fifth and Blondie Bird and Friends sixth.
