King and Queen of the Bands announced ...03/07/2008

Five of the nine mas bands participating in the King and Queen of the Bands competition at Dimanche Gras, have a chance of taking both titles when they grace the stage at Carnival City Victoria Park.

 

Following the preliminary Judging on Monday July 30th (Mas on the Move), the WE FM First Caribbean Singer Lynx Mas Band, Heineken Dragons, Melbourne Artisans, Guinness Blondie Bird and Friends, and My Imagination secured selections in both categories.

Singer Lynx will be represented by Alexis Lawrence in the kingsÕ category portraying Eclipse in their presentation of Signs and Wonders, while Monica OÕGarro will portray Global Warming in the queen division.

Portraying Tribute to Soca Monarch Fireman Hooper is Glenord Quashie of My Imagination in the king department while Kenisha Richards will portray Miss Carival in the queenÕs department.

For Dragons production of The Beauty and Cultures of South America, Andrew Sutherland will represent the King with Pachacuki: the Earth Shaker and Paulette Culzac will play Mother of Gold.

Digicel Nelson BlocÕs Andre Browne will portray Duel of Dragons and Shaunelle Mckenzie will play Opium: the Forbidden Flower in the bands presentation of Shanghai Nights.

And Atiba Lockhart and Simone Richardson are portraying Jupiter and Galaxy on Fire for Blondie Bird and friendsÕ production of Party in Space.

Other king of the Bands hopefuls are Ezzie Roberts portraying Fireworks for the wizards Mas Tent and Gordon Boucher Playing Immortal Chatoyer for Melbournae Artisans.

The queen competitors are Petra Pompey of Aunt Jobes High Voltage portraying Riches of Queen Nefertiti, and Jenilee Glasgow playing Exotic Birds of Paradise for KFC SVG Players International.
