Public health and safety is priority ...07/06/2008

More garbage bins, more toilet facilities and NO GLASS BOTTLES!

ThatÕs just some of the things that the physical Planning Division, along with the Carnival Development Corporation and the Kingstown Board are hoping to see around Kingstown for the 2008 Carnival season.

Following a post mortem of the 2007 festivities, a number of revisions were made in hopes of making Vincy Mas safer and more enjoyable for all.

Among the changes, was the decision to have the area between Middle Street and Bay Street clear of vendors, street bars and trailers.

The committee announced that not only street vendors and bars are being asked to observe the No Bottle Policy, but also private bars, but pouring drinks in plastic or paper cups.

The committee is also working with the public health department to ensure food handlers are properly trained and medically certified.

Street bars would be located in two areas: Lower Bay Street across RandyÕs Supermarket and at Heritage Square.

While street bars are allowed to sell food and drinks at anytime between June 27th and July8th, the playing of amplified music had been revised.

Loud music is allowed between 9pm and 1am from June 27th to July third, except the 28th, and July 1st when the music can commence at 7pm.

On July 4th the music resumes at 9pm to 1am

On July 6th all amplified music stops from 5am to 2pm, then all music ceases at 10pm on July 8th.

The committee expects full cooperation from all involved in the operation of street bars and vendors, failure to do so could result in the closure and seizure of goods, and a chance that that person may not be allowed to vend in the future.
