O! Joy- Dani O is Ragga Soca Monarch
A highly charged performance
propelled multi talented 23 year old Danielle ÔDani OÕ Ollivierre out front in
the first carnival held Ragga Soca Competition.
Competing for only the second
time in her singing career, Ollivierre out sang, out danced and out performed
15 of her musical peers to take the title in front of a moderate but
appreciative crowd at the Carnival City Victoria Park.
With the assistance of well
toned and chiseled bodied dancers, the former Miss SVG contestant, who placed
Second Runner Up in 2006, finally received a crown with her song ÔGimme MoreÕ.
Performing sixth on the
night, Ollivierre beat former Ragga Soca champion Skarpyon into the
second spot.
Skarpyon who did a rendition of his song ÔForeverÕ, was
followed by Gallanaire in the third spot with his
song ÔDo YouÕ, and another soca diva Shaunelle McKenzie placing fourth with ÔDonÕt Let Me GoÕ.
The dancer turned singer
Ollivierre burst on the scene last year with a collaborated effort called ÔLove
TonightÕ with former soca monarch Maddzart,
and competed in the 2007 Soca Monarch Competition
with her effort called ÔFollow MeÕ.
The other competitors in
SundayÕs event were Zoelah, Full Clip, Bomani, Bam, Tabia, Karen Veira, Dennis Bowman, Blakie featuring Skinny Fabulous, Squitty, KC Featuring Icon
and Shady.
