Rural carnivals in full swing...05/06/2008

Ezzie With one rural carnival complete, Vincentians in the urban, suburban and Grenadine communities still have nine other scheduled jump ups to take part in, as activities in a number of these Carnivals Kick off or continue.

The North Windward Carnival culminates this weekend (June 6th and 7th) with the Miss North Windward Beauty pageant and Street jump up respectively.

The carnival launched on June first with a Miss Princess pageant.

The north Leeward Carnival which was also launched on June first, holds its Miss North Leeward pageant on Friday June 20th followed by jump up on the 21st.

Layou Carnival resumes on June 20th with its Beauty pageant, followed by JÕouvert and jump up the following day.

The Carnival launched on May 23rd with a wet fete at the Layou Hard Court.

Other areas holding rural Carnival include Bequia, PÕTani, East St. George and South Leeward.

The Biabou Carnival culminated with a massive jump up on May 24th

Some major sponsors over the past weeks have been dishing out sponsorship cash and kind for the rural events, much to the delight of organizers.

These include communications providers Cable and Wireless and Digicel, and the St. Vincent Brewery.

Head of the Rural Carnivals Committee Ezzie Roberts indicated that the rural Carnivals are being well patronized, and judging by attendances, the official Carnival events are expected to be well attended.

Roberts noted that the level of calypsos, mas and pageantry at these events have been very impressive.
