Skinny Fabulous is New Soca Monarch

ZSkinnyIn front of a record attendance for a Soca Monarch show, or perhaps any event organised by the Carnival Development Corporation, Gamal ÔSkinny FabulousÕ Doyle did what was considered by many inconceivable when he dethroned six time winner Delroy ÔFiremanÕ Hooper early Sunday Morning (July 6th) at the Victoria Park.

Performing ÔMe Head BadÕ to a near capacity crowd of close to ten thousand jumping, waving, screaming carnival fans, Doyle turned a new page in the book of Vincy Soca Music, which is beginning to taken more seriously in the region and on an international level.

The young veteran will represent St. Vincent and the Grenadines at the International Soca Monarch competition in Trinidad and Tobago, where he stands a chance of collecting a cool million TT dollars should he convince the judges then as he was ably capable of doing in the national competition.

Skinny Fabulous relegated last yearÕs champion Hooper who performed ÔWho e hut e hutÕ into second position, with 2007 Road March King Shertz ÔProblem Child James placing third withÕ For LifeÕ.

Performing ÔA PainÕ, Garret John; ÔIconÕ placed foruth, and Montgomery ÔDemusÕ Laborde was in the fifth position with ÔCrazy manÕ.

Considered one of the most competitive events in the 2008 carnival calendar to date, the artistes were judged of Lyrics, Melody, Performance and Crowd Response.

The other finalists were Poorsah, Coyaba, Lively, Fire Empress, Dani O, Daniele Viera, Bomani, Skarpyon, Homey, Full Clip, Tamisha, Alla G, KGB and Maddzart.
