Overwhelmed and EC$2000 richer is two ways that one can describe the 2011 Miss P’Tani Carnival Queen Shakelle Bobb.
Sponsored by Fullworth Boutique, the 18-year old Bobb won the Miss P’Tani crown last Friday June 3rd during the pageant that was held at the La Croix Palletization Centre. This is the third consecutive year that a contestant sponsored by Fullworth Boutique has won the crown.
After being crowned by Miss P’Tani 2010 Anna LaBorde, Bobb who is the daughter of Kendal Warren and Diane Bob said that she would like to thank her parents, chaperone Patsy Richards, sponsor Monica Glasgow, Annette Francois, “and all of my friends and Annette’s friends who helped me every step of the way”.
Enroute to the crown, the Richland Park resident (who placed first runner up in the Miss Bequia pageant last year) also won in three of the four judged categories. She gained the judges nod in the talent, evening gown and interview segments.
“I am hoping to take part in the Miss SVG pageant in the next two or three years”, said Bobb who is currently doing A level examinations as a second year student at the Division of Arts, Science and General Studies (Community College, Glen). She is pursuing studies in law, physcology, Caribbean studies and communication studies.
In the first runner up position was Miss Chappies Riverside Rusheder May. May who was judged to have worn the best swimwear said that at this point she does not plan to take part in any more pageants.
“It is a good thing that I placed and I think the better contestant won”, said the 18-year-old Richland Park resident who was also judged Miss Photogenic. May who is a form 5 student at the St. Joseph’s Convent Marriaqua also recently took part in the Miss Unity Youths 2011 pageant where she was also crowned Miss Photogenic. She received EC$1200 for placing second.
Miss Specks Concrete Products Kerlicer James placed
second runner up.
“I think that it was fair and I enjoyed the show”, she said while adding that her position came as a shock to her, “because I was not fully prepared”. The Lowmans Windward resident who is a student at the North Union Secondary School said that she is currently doing her CXC/CSEC Examinations. She like May also took part in the recently staged Miss Unity Youths 2011 pageant. “I am hoping to take part in the Miss SVG show in 2014 once I have life”, said James. She received EC$800 for placing second runner up.
The other contestants were Miss Red Dog Garage Kate Johnson (Miss Congeniality), Miss Cato’s Heavy Equipment Leanza Johnson and Miss People’s Pharmacy Petra Bristol.
