Miss St.Kitts & Nevis wins Miss Carival 2011 title
Although she won three of the four judged categories in the 2011 First Citizens Miss Carival Pageant, Miss St. Kitts Nevis Iantavian Queeley said that she did not expect to win.
“I was very surprised but yet very excited that I can be the one to take the crown back to St, Kitts after so many years”, she said on Friday July 1st after being crowned at Carnival City Victoria Park.
Revealing that she now has her eyes set on the Miss Jaycees crown, a show slated for Antigua later this month, Queeley who is from Border Rock said, “this is overwhelming and I am very excited but glad to get it over with it”. She added that the pageant was a lot of hard work, “but I am glad that I can do my country proud”.
En route to being crowned, Queeley beat the nine other contestants in the Evening Gown, Swim Wear and Talent categories. She also took the Miss Photogenic Award but was outdone in the interview segment by Miss Anguilla Shellya Rogers who also placed 2nd runner up.
Said QueeIey, “I am definitely satisfied with my performance because a lot of hard work went into it; I would like to now take a long nap but after that I will like to go back home and continue working with the platforms that I love, particulary the performing arts and the sea turtle monitoring network that we have back home”.
She added that she expects great things during her reign, “and I think I will use my reign as a platform to continue promoting the performing arts because that something that is dear to me”.
This is the fourth pageant that Queeley has won. She revealed that she is currently making the transition between school and finding work.
The 26th staging of the Miss Carival pageant saw in the 1st runner up position Miss St. Vincent and the Grenadines Aviar Charles. Miss Barbados Brittany Worrell was given the Miss Congeniality Award. The other contestants were Miss Dominica Jacinta Fagan, Miss Dominican Republic Karen Shih Reyes, Miss Jamaica Roneisha James, Miss St. Lucia Lousie Victor, Miss Trinidad and Tobago Kia Joachim and Miss Venezuela Yojaisy Mendoza Rondon.
As part of her winnings, Queeley took home US$4,300 compliments the Carnival Development Corporation (CDC). Charles got US$1300 while Rogers received US$700. The winners also received gifts from various business houses and trophies from individuals and organizations.
The Miss Carival pageant was introduced as part of Vincy Mas in 1985 and has as one of its objectives to foster greater linkages and bonds between the islands.
