Security for the Miss SVG 2011 Show

On Saturday night an additional police presence will be added at Wilson Hill/Fernside in an attempt to curb the instances of vehicle break-ins during the Miss St. Vincent and the Grenadines Pageant which will be held at the Victoria Park.

But while this is so, Inspector Jonathon Nicholls, the police representative on the Carnival Development Corporation (CDC) board has encouraged persons to secure their vehicles while trying their best not to leave items in their vehicles that might attract thieves.

Nicholls speaking at a press conference last Monday at the CDC base in Victoria Park said that police officers, while not being a major component of Vincy Mas, have an integral part to play and have played that part in securing the festival over the years.
“Last year we had a number of break-ins so this year we will be ensuring that there is personnel to patrol the area”, said Nicholls. He added that persons can help the police also by placing alarms in their vehicles.

Nicholls added that the Police is always looking for ways to make the festival safer and this year, a new innovation saw police officers included on the rural carnival bodies. He said that the no bottle policy has played an important role in keeping down incidents of violence while the initiative has been lauded by a number of regional police forces. He stressed that while there are challenges, cooperation from the public will help in making the festival safer. He urged persons to be mindful of each other’s beliefs and not to impose, “your standards on others”.

Nicholls also revealed that on Saturday night, parking behind the Victoria Park will be restricted to vehicles with official passes.
“We encourage people to come to St. Vincent and the Grenadines and the less incidents of violence the better”, said Nicholls.
