Patrons attending Carnival events geared towards attracting the younger audiences will not hear certain soca songs that have been released for Vincy Mas 2011.
But while the Carnival Development Corporation (CDC) has placed a band on a number of these songs, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the CDC Ashford Wood said that the CDC would not say what songs are censored for the junior events.
“You would just not hear them”, he said on Wednesday June 22nd.
On Tuesday June 21st, the CDC held their final press conference in relation to Vincy Mas 2011. Addressing the gathering at the briefing, Wood reading a statement prepared by the CDC’s Chairman Dennis Ambrose in Ambrose’s absence, said that in view of the colored debate on the lyrical content of some of the songs which have been released, “far too many have been described as being vulgar, smutty and totally inappropriate”.
Continuing, Wood said, “the CDC wishes to register its concern and share the view that the lyrics of some of these renditions are smutty and inappropriate especially for our young audiences”.
He revealed that the CDC therefore intends to instruct the relevant DJs for the junior events to restrain from playing those particular songs and, “we intend to monitor the situation very closely”.
Since the release of a number of the songs this year, a number of radio personalities and persons in the community have expressed concerns about the vulgar lyrics of some of these songs.
