Steel and Glitter

This year persons attending the Steel and Glitter show slated for next Thursday June 30th will be entertained by three different aspects of Vincy Mas in a competitive setting.
Scheduled for the Victoria Park, Steel and Glitter will this year see three different competitions being held. They are the Senior Panorama Competition, the Mas Bands Section of the Year competition and the new addition, the Soca Dance off Competition.

On Tuesday at the Carnival Development’s (CDC) final press conference for Vincy Mas 2011, Head of the Youlou Pan Movement (YPM) Warren Knights revealed that participating in the Senior Panorama Competition this year are the National Lotteries Authority (NLA) Sion Hill Euphonium Steel Orchestra, the Potential Steel Orchestra, the Elite Steel Orchestra, the South East Steel Orchestra, Dynamic Stars (Union Island) and the Starlift Steel Orchestra. Starlift is returning from a two year absence while Dynamic Stars are in the competition for the first time.

The show, packaged as Steel and Glitter will also see 12 Mas Bands competing for the Section of the Year title. The 12 Bands are defending champions Guinness/Y De Lima/Hitz FM 103.7 Blonde Bird & Friends, KFC Heineken Dragons, SVG General Services Players International, Digicel / Hitz FM 103.7 Nelson Bloc, Owen Ralph and the Professionals, Beautex International, Sting Power-Searchlight Tribes Carnival Band, Imagination, Ahdrenalin Mas, Melbourne Artisans, Xtreme Fanatics and Aunt Jobe's Market/ Metrocint General Insurance Co Ltd High Voltage Mas Band.

Mirage Productions are registered for 2011 competition but they will not be competing in the section of the band competition.
The addition, the Soca Dance off Competition has attracted five dance groups competing for dance off champs.

Steel and Glitter will also feature the Iron Giants pan side from Trinidad and Tobago and local artistes like GAO, New Sensation and Godfrey Dublin. The 2011 Miss Carival Contestants will also make an appearance while the first 100 persons entering the Victoria Park will get a chance to win tickets for the Miss Carival Pageant (Friday July 1st) and the Soca Monarch competition (Saturday July 2nd).
Head of the Carnival Mas Bands (CBA) Association Hugh Ragguette said on Tuesday that the CBA is quite pleased to partner with the YPM to produce Steel and Glitter. He said that he is hoping that this year, the show can attract more patrons to the Victoria Park.
