Vincy Mas News

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Carnival Development Corporation (CDC) Ashford Wood says that he is looking forward to a great carnival season 2011.
Wood, speaking at a press conference on Wednesday May 4th said that the marketing team is working very hard to get the Vincy Mas 2011 message out and that to aid this process they have been distributing view cards, posters and brochures with the activities and dates.
He added that these things have not only been distributed locally but regionally and internationally. In his address on Wednesday, Wood appealed to the business places to decorate, “so as to give the whole city a carnival lift”.
Wood spoke of the rural activities. He said that on Saturday May 30th the Upstage Calypso Tent kicked off at South Rivers, “and it was good”. He said that the CDC is pleased and wishes to commend the rural effort to have calypso.
“This will breed new life into the art form and hopefully by the time we get to the finals this may have stimulated interest and can help improve attendance at the shows”, said Wood. He added that the CDC is hoping to stage the calypso semi finals at a different venue this year. It is usually held at the Victoria Park.
Addressing Saturday’s (May 7th) launch, Wood appealed to persons, “who want to revel alongside trucks to give consideration to the flow of traffic”.
He also spoke about the Mas Bands stating, “Most of the Mas Bands have launched and they look good and are being displayed on the CDC’s website www.carnivalsvg.com”.
“Our costumes remain the cheapest yet the most attractive in the Caribbean”, said Wood who encouraged persons to, “register and make your choice early as to aid with the production”.
He also urged persons to visit the rural carnivals as the CDC continues to work with private groups that help to bring entertainment to the festival.
