The Biography of Emmelin Patrice John

Miss FirstCaribbean

I was born Emmelin Patrice John on the 13th August, 1987 and I grew up in Georgetown; I am however affectionately called Emma. I attended the Georgetown Government School where I entered my first pageant and won. From that day I have dreamt of entering the Miss SVG Pageant.

At the age of 11 I migrated to Toronto, Canada where I entered the Danforth Collegiate High School and while there I completed a cosmetology course which ignited my interest in that field. Thereafter I used all my spare time styling my own hair and that of my friends.

After secondary school I attended the JBS Institute in Toronto where I received a Certificate in Retail and Customer Service. I also completed the “Kick Start” program, a government assisted program, in which I was trained to assist people in choosing the right career.

After my studies I worked at A Quality Mobility, a transport company, where I started as a Front Desk Receptionist and was later promoted to the Accounts Department.

While working at A Quality Mobility, I thought about my own career path and in September 2007 I enrolled in the Social Service and Community Work Diploma course at Medix College. I was unable to complete the course because in February 2008 I returned home to help with the care of an ill family member.

I was motivated to enter the Miss SVG Pageant because of the opportunity to win a university scholarship which will be used to help me complete my degree and training in Social Work. As a Social Worker I hope to specialize in the area of Domestic Violence to be able to provide proper guidance and counseling to battered and abused women. I am hopeful that the Miss SVG Pageant will be the avenue for me to meet different types of people, especially those who have different opinions to mine and who may influence my life in a positive way.
