The Biography of La Toya Lewis

Miss Super 6

Born on October sixteenth 1987 to Augustus Haynes and Jennie Lewis I am 20-year-old La Toya Lewis from the quiet village of Edinboro.

I attended the Anglican Government School for the first two years of my primary education and then went on to the Lodge Village Government School. At the Lodge Village Government School extra curricular activities were very limited and so in 1997 when the Red Cross program was introduced to that school I enrolled. The most important thing that I learnt in this program was first aid and how to administer it in particular situations.

In 2000 I graduated top of my primary school class for girls and went on to the St. Joseph’s Convent Kingstown. Finally, I was at the school of my dreams.

At St. Joseph’s Convent, as a lover of sports, I became actively involved in many sporting activities and throughout my Junior years at that school I was Junior Sports Champion. I am very proud of the fact that when I got to Form 5 my road relay record was still intact. I eventually became Sports Captain of Our Lady’s House.

In 2005 I graduated from secondary school with six subjects: Mathematics, Information Technology, Caribbean History, Social Studies, Principles of Accounts and Principles of Business. I was disappointed not to have passed English and so in 2007 I went on to acquire my qualification in that subject. After St. Joseph’s Convent I attended the SVG Community College but I was forced to discontinue my studies due to a lack of funds. I have however not let this obstacle prevent me from furthering my education and I am currently attempting Management of Business at evening classes.

I am currently employed with the National Lotteries Authority as a Customer Service Representative. I intend to complete my education and I am determined to be in the management field.

I have many interests some of which are singing, dancing, song writing, writing poetry and listening to music. Singing is however what interests me the most and I know I am very good at it. I love listening to music because it causes you to relax and I love having that feeling. Music is a big part of my life. In 2007 I entered the Digicel Rising Stars and made it to the top 50; I got really positive reviews but failed to make it to the top 10.

I am also a member of the Taekwondo Association but because of my schedule I do not have the opportunity to be actively involved.

I have entered into a number of beauty shows my first being Miss Biker Babe and in that show I won Best Biker Wear and was adjudged the Second Runner-up. In 2007 I entered Miss Independence; I won Best Talent, Best Eveningwear and the title of Queen. I also entered Miss Unity Youth but was unable to participate because I was extremely ill and had to be hospitalized.

Each person has someone they look up to. My role model is Mrs. Ajeni Shakur, the mother of American rapper Tupac Amary Shakur and an important member of the Black Panther Party. She defended herself in Court against the Government of the United States of America while pregnant with her son, Tupac. She is the perfect example of a strong black woman and as a young woman she inspires me to stand up and fight for what I believe in no matter who is condemning me.

Entering Miss SVG has always been a dream of mine ever since the day that my father asked me, “When are you going to stop acting like a boy and become a young lady, because one day you have to enter Miss SVG and make me proud!” My father is now deceased but we were close and those words of his have inspired me to achieve my dreams and to make him proud. I am thankful that I have been given this opportunity to fulfill my dreams. I know my father is looking down on me and that he is extremely proud.
