The
Biography of Jolene Toney
Miss
Mustique Co. Ltd.
I was born on 15th August, 1985 to Ms. Susan Toney and Mr.
Michael David. Although I always knew my father, he was not continuously
present in my life as I grew up. This meant that my mother was really a single
parent and she had to work exceedingly hard to support and raise me and my two
brothers and one sister.
I attribute my stalwart nature and positive attitude in life to my
mother; watching her face hardship with dignity and a sunny outlook has definitely
influenced the person that I am today.
My motto in life is to “Always stand for Dignity, Pride and
Protection”.
I am a trained registered nurse and I am currently attached to the
Georgetown district. I enjoy caring for people; this is the main reason I chose
nursing as a career. One of my goals in life is to always be an exemplary
person; since nursing calls for discipline and professionalism it was
inevitable that I would be able to achieve this goal through nursing.
Nursing as a career is challenging, especially when it comes to the
training. It calls for discipline, sacrifice and for focus. However, although
it is challenging my dedicated and determined attitude towards whatever I do
coupled with my approach to life (as epitomized by my motto) has brought me
through. It is almost as if every hard won success that I have had in my life
was meant to be and I do not take any of it for granted.
I have achieved and accomplished much through Nursing; it has earned me
respect from my peers and the community in which I live and it has helped me to
remain focused and to have a life-long career.
Although Nursing is my chosen profession, I have had over the years a
keen interest in several things. At one point I contemplated being a Hair
Stylist, a Seamstress and a Medical Doctor. As I have grown as a person and
achieved the goals I set for myself my interests have changed because my
expectations of what I can achieve in my life have also changed.
My aspiration is to become a Nursing Professor. This career interests
me most because I have a passion for imparting knowledge to others. It gives me
a sense of self-satisfaction and peace of mind to know that I have helped
someone understand something that previously confused them.
I would describe myself as caring, loving and, most of all, simple and
down-to-earth.
As a form of relaxation I enjoy putting my feet up and meditating on
what next life will bring to me. As I have a hectic and demanding career, it
does not allow me much time for other recreational activities.
The one driving force in my life is the thought of success. When I
achieve the goals I have set for myself I am satisfied because it gives me a
sense of fulfillment and pride.
